Stumpjumper Rear Shock Retro Fit
« on: May 23, 2010, 12:54:05 PM »
If anyone has an 08 Stump Jumper FSR Comp, you can relate to the rear Fox Triad shock being a real pain.  Not only that, its real tough to find a replacement with the right size/stroke.  Anyway, I had to send mine in to get fixed, and was left without a bike until Thom, Suggested a pvc pipe might work as a temp fix.  The pvc was too big, but I was able to retro fix an only piece of Closet maid, closet bar instead.
I used a tennis ball, and wood shim near the back wheel to help me keep the same height before I removed the Triad shock. After removal, I  put the closet rod in the vice, and squeezed it till it was just the right size to fit in the bottom bracket using the stock, shock bolt. Then I measured, cut to size and did the same thing for the top bracket.  . Then I just marked the hole locations and drilled the holes in a drill press.
Took me 25 minutes.
For those of us that can not afford to have a spare shock around, this was a quick & cheap fix till the shock gets back.
Rides like a hard tail.  Its been a few days now, and no issues.
I should have my shock back in a week !!
