P35's should I or shouldn't I?
« on: January 21, 2010, 08:36:03 PM »

OK, Have been running on my goofy green rims for a while now and I love them. But after an evil Derailleur Hanger Monster  :evil12: ate my hanger and derail and also had to  take out a few spokes with it just to make sure I was really F$#@ing pissed off. I rebuilt the rear wheel while watching TV, with a few beers,  :beers2: and wasn't paying attention, well I over torqued a tad and dimpled the rim a tad.  They are running fine but I hate the damn Shimano XT 7xx hubs sooo I basically gave myself an excuse to build another set of wheels, and use these as back ups/winter rims.   ;D  got a nice Hope Pro 2 rear hub and been sitting trying to decide If I should stay with the Blunts or go with the new wider P35's.  Kinda in no rush(yaaaa right  :undecided:) been waiting to see some info on the P35's......

http://twentynineinches.com/2009/11/01/velocity-p-35-29er-rims-on-test/

soo... they add like 45 grams but I have to say... a rim that wide should be super sweet. I definitely notice the Blunts extra width over the other 29er rims I've tried...  get less side "roll out" twist, what ever going around corners....

so what do you guys think?

and yes, they come in the same goofy, gooy anti freeze green!!  :couch:

Please do not refer to "said color green" as goofy. If you can clean a chain with an electric toothbrush, you have the license to go with ANY technoweenie equipment...in any color(s).
Your signature colorscheme is *simply green*.
Thumbs up/vote yes for the new wheel build. Good idea to use the old ones for extra winter/bad conditions wheelset.

..just don't clean your bike with anything green:o

they're here,...they're here,...they're here,...they're here,...!!!  ;D

the green is different than my blunt's are.  it's a day-glo, transparent green that let's the rim's alum shine through...very strange, in a good way.  About the only bad thing I can say about the coloring is I wish they could have sanded the marks in the rim evenly, there are some odd crossings, but probably wont notice once it's on the bike.  :undecided:

the hub is a black Hope Pro 2 and it's all getting black spokes with chrome nipples... off to build now  :):):):)

just some info..... (cause I started a glass of wine and so I've stopped working on the rim)

so, the reason I'm doing this whole wheel thing is multi purpose...

One, the stupid Shimano Hub (XT 756) is a P.O.S. !!!the bearing cup keeps coming loose or tighten every time I install or remove the rear wheel.. ending up in wobble wheel or binding...SO... new Hope Hub   :D

Two, I blew a few spokes when I sucked up a stick which in turn sucked up the rear derailleur into the wheel, broke 3 spokes, had a few beers when installing new spokes...  :beers2: and not paying attention I over tightened the spokes and dimpled the rim and hub a tad,(reason this time when the wine started pouring it was time to stop   :o :'() it wasn't bad, been riding on it for almost a yr, but I wanted these P-35's so I waited till they were available...which is NOW  ;D :D ;D

Three, My Voodoo Canzo 29er has a very small spacing for rear tire width, 2.2 or smaller, I wanted a bit more tire on the ground so by going with this super wide rim I can get a thinner tire to give me a bit more ground contact...

see the difference in widths to what most rims are?

and a final bonus I actually didn't expect..... weight, now these are by no means "weight weenie wheels" but,.....

what the old stock Specialized rim weighed...

what the current Blunts with a crappy Shimmy XT hub..

what the new P-35's with the nice Hope hub weighs

I'll take that weight savings...!!!     ;D  ^-^ ^-^
