Keen Springwater
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:02:21 PM »

I saw these in my LBS catalog and figured I'd give them a go. I figured they would be good for my everyday commute and still have some walkabilty for those times when your not on your bike.
When first put on they felt a little snug. i would suggest ( as their website does) going up one larger size. They have three heavy duty velcro straps that tighten them to your foot very securely.
The first thing i noticed after I put them on was no . click click click on the floor when i walked, and some nice comfort on my arch and heel.. cushy comfort.
Ok big deal.. How are they on the bike... They clipped right in.. no trimming at all.. nice tight fit , pretty stiff, not racing bike shoe stiff, but stiff enough and very comfy.
Hows the hike a bike walking??? no clue.. i've only used them for commutes so far, but next time Im in the woods I ll get off and walk a little...
Side note: I did notice that the shoe was rubbing the top of my foot a little and causing a little discomfort. the material was pushed in a little. so i stuff it with some paper owels for an hour and that problem was taken care of.
2nd side note: It has a nice boxy toe area, for ppl with wider feet, plenty of room for the tootsies.. or ppl with broken big toes
3rd side note: They look like keens.. very similar to their hiking shoes.. either you like them or you dont..

i will continue to test these until they fall apart!!!!

hmmm I need something a little "softer" don't really need a super stiff shoe and I find that if I step off the bike the sole either makes my foot roll of slide if it's rock face. My pedals are a big platform so being a bit more flexible would be fine.  wish they were a little cheaper.. can't really afford new shoes for 100+ at this point.. but keep writing... maybe in my future  :undecided:

Yeah, i was a little shocked at their price. You can get a very good, Mtn bike shoe for the same price thats proven. Luckily I get a nice discount as a bike shop employee!!!!

I have used the keens for mostly commuting, they are sneaker comfortable and you dont hear the cleat hitting the floor at all!!They also have refelctive piping on them for more visability I like them a lot. I have used them on the trails a few times, they clean up very well.

I highly recommend them!!!
