whippermann chains
« on: March 05, 2009, 01:01:00 PM »

last night I went to a bike expo in Heartland brewery and saw these chains. They have a quick link that allows u to disconnect it in 5 secs without a chain tool. they told be it would out perform xt and sram chains. I told them id try it out next time i needed a chain cause they did look pretty nice. Thats when they just gave it to me too test out. plus i was a nickel coated one. really nice ppl trying to push what seems to be a good product. I put it on today and it was a piece of cake. time will tell how good it lasts.

well?    ;D how is it?

I have actually heard a lot of complaints about their chains snapping... just wondering if they figured out how to fix the issue.?

Pictures?

I have read reviews of many ppl having problems with them. I threw it on my commuter bike to really give it a beating and i am not impressed. there was a noticable difference and it was not a good thing.. Ill give it a few weeks more and then probably switch back. id be pissed of it it broke and I had to fix it or worse yet not have a chain tool woth me to do so... I hate walking!!!

I gave the "whippy" a real good trial.
A couple of years ago i bought one. If i hadn't spoken to others who had similar problems, i would have thought i had a lemon.
A lemon for sure. I broke it numerous times within approx 18 months. Links bent up and broke with so little effort that it spooked me.
Sure enough, on a ride at RP Long Island,  just some weeks back, my bud Jordie broke his brand new whippy.
If they hadn't made the chain available in colors, i would have NEVER tried it.
I wanted a blue chain at the time to match some other parts.
What the heck was i thinking?!?!  ??? :-[

I have used the stainless steel version on my road bikes for years.
Never had a single problem.
