Hayes MX4 Mechanical DB's
« on: April 14, 2009, 08:12:44 AM »

I find that these brakes adjust easily. Modulation is pretty good, a weaknesses in the mx4 is braking on longer decents tend to bother your fingers a little.  These brakes are good if you're getting into disk brakes. Braking power isn't the best but I'm happy. If your bike comes with them they will serve their purpose. But on the upgrade list. I give 'em an 8 out of 10.

I tend to notice the finger/hand cramping and tiredness from the mechanical brakes.. once Hydraulics come into play that all goes away. The Mechs are so easy to use and so light though

ya.. i love my mech's brakes.. but I just might be going back to hydro's  the one thing I have noticed is the cables don't flex well around the suspension link because they are stiffer. also they are thinner so the zip ties don't hold them tightly.. they slide back and forth during suspension cycles.. kinda annoying.

I do have a new unused Hayes mech caliper I purchased as a back up some yrs ago. it's scratched from rolling around but you can have it for a spare if you'd like (and I can find it) there Applehead.  ;D
